Too many books out to make money with little or no value

These day there too many books out there to make money. Many local Malaysia writers has started publishing their own book, especially on investment and personal finance subject. However many of title has little value. Most information in the book can be easily be found with a click on google.

Ok, there are many good genuine local writers as well but I just can't stay the pretenders. For the readers, like me, we need to be smart of selecting the right book and not wasting the limited budget on the valueless title.

How to value a book, non-fiction in particular? Here is some tips for you:

1) Don't misled by the book title. Read the table of content and see any of the chapters has anything that relevant and interest to you.

2) Read the first few pages of the chapters that you most interested. Whatever you read there must be some new information to you. Or it must has connection to you that touches you.

3) Information inside the book should be personal or specific. General information & description is not worth the time and money for you.

4) Result driven, think of what you can get out of the book. Inspiration, knowledge, action guidance, etc.

5) Select the book that matches your level of understanding of the subject. It is no point to buy a book you can hardly understand, it will likely end up collecting dust in your storeroom

6) Evaluate how much you can trust what the writers written. Most Author will exaggerate their experience and story. Whatever recommend in the book could very much a theory that never proven.

In conclusion, be a smart reader and don't be fooled and wasted your precious time and money on the junk that published just to make money from us

Advise for the Hazy days

1. Ensure that all windows shut at all times and bathroom doors is closed

2.  Haze breathe in gets lodged deep in your lungs and can't get out. It's the PM2.5 particulate matter that's dangerous

3.  Make sure u cover your nose when outdoors

4. These particulates (in the haze) are too tiny and they will bypass the hairy and mucous nose to lodge into the lungs. As these particulates are non-water solvent, they will stay in the lungs, will cause cells to mutate and potentially cancer cells can develop from there. So do take care and keep your children and elderly folks indoors. And wear N95 masks even though it's a short walk from home to car and office.

5. Bring a huge umbrella out and avoid rain water at all cost.  Gov't is planning to seed the clouds to rain and the rain water is harmful to human skin.

Please share if you have more information

The Amazing Haze has return

No surprise that the Amazing Haze has return to haunt the Bolehland and Kiau City.  It is always on time never late.  The yearly event has been going on for years and no action was ever taken to address it.  Personally I am very upset with the attitude of the authority, this is not only an environmental issues but also health issue for the 1.7 billions people than live around the Asia Pacific region.

Years ago, they told u it i because of the forest fire, but we all know that it is bull sh*t.  It is actually open burning of padi fields.  A bad neighbour can really make your day.  Maybe Alvin Onn's post in Youtube out a be can help to cheer you out a little

It was predicted that haze will continue to sometime in late August or September.  This will be a "Haziest" Hari Raya ever, my friends.

iOS 7 on iPhone 4

I have installed iOS 7 beta on my iPhone4 since it was released on the first day. So far the experience has not been good. It is slaggish and the UI is actually feelin out of place for me.

From the experience standpoint, it resemble a Windows cloned but don't lack of cohesiveness overall.

I actually is disappointed by it. However, anyhow, in the market, there are still not mobile OS is much better

Facebook or blog?

Blog Bloke has 15 Good Reasons Why Blogs Still Matter and it is may not be all correct, at least from my own opinion that Facebook actually has bigger and faster impact toward others that blog.

However, since Facebook has try to co-own everything you posted on it recently, read here, the trend might be reversed as of today.  Blog is more attractive than ever as it is below to you and no own will come and claim it right on the material you posted.

Beside, we always has Google+ as the alternative to Facebook, but still there are no good way to migrate all your friends from on social network side to the other.  I actually has totally different group of friends on Facebook, Google+ and Twitter.

What is your favorite as of today?

Why you should use OpenOffice for your business

OpenOffice is a great alternative to Microsoft Office. It can perform everything you can do in Microsoft Office and best of all it is FREE.  Yes, I said FREE, you don't have to pay single cent for even commercial use and you can install on as many computer as you like.

For people new to OpenOffice, you may find it difficult to navigate or finding the features you are familiar no longer where it suppose to be (as in MS Office).  However, once you use it for couple of time, you will be as productive as you are in MS Office. Just remember that Help is your friend.

If you wonder why you should go through the hassle to use OpenOffice, just think about the money you save.  For example, MS Office Home Edition going about RM500, while Professional Edition is about RM1400.a  Let say you have 10 units of computers in the office, you can easily save from RM5000 to RM14,000 just by using OpenOffice.

OpenOffice Programs

  • Writer a word processor you can use for anything from writing a quick letter to producing an entire book. Alternative to Word.
  • Calc a powerful spreadsheet with all the tools you need to calculate, analyse, and present your data in numerical reports or sizzling graphics. Alternative to Excel.
  • Impress the fastest, most powerful way to create effective multimedia presentations. Alternative to Powerpoint.
  • Draw lets you produce everything from simple diagrams to dynamic 3D illustrations.
  • Base lets you manipulate databases seamlessly. Create and modify tables, forms, queries, and reports, all from within Apache OpenOffice. Alternative to Access
  • Math lets you create mathematical equations with a graphic user interface or by directly typing your formulas into the equation editor.

Millionaire in Fastlane

MJ DeMarco's book, The Millionaire Fastlane: Crack the Code to Wealth and Live Rich for a Lifetime, is a very interesting piece of work. I was inspired by it actually.

He has stated that most financial gurus are not telling you the truth and pointing the masses to follow the 'slowlane'.

"Go to school, get a job, save 10% of your paycheck, buy a used car, save and one day when you will be 65 years old you will retire rich."

That is not something I want. So what is the solution? Be an entrepreneur, especially to take advantage of the Internet

Just like any other business, all successful business must be based on "Need". Without it, there are no business case.

2nd, what is the barrier of entry, the higher the barrier, it is better

Then, other things to be consider are the scale of the business can be growth, the control of tangible & intangible assets, etc

And last but not least, the distraction that derail you from your goals

It is something that make me thinking hard ......

Opensource LDAP

LDAP has been around for decades and openldap is the only opensource ldap in town until few years ago.

I think openldap is great but it is just too complicated & operationally inconvenience to implement. Along, I have discovered 2 alternative opensource ldap that possible to fit our project requirements.

Alternative 1:-
389 Directory Server aka RedHat Directory Server is available for linux distro but it also work on HPUX, Solaris, etc. It share the common root with openldap with base branch from University of Michigan. It has all the features that openldap offered & it has we admin interface that make the administration easy

Alternative 2:-
OpenDJ/OpenDS is Java based ldap that started by SUN. It probably is the most effortless to setup. On performance, it has reported it can handle millions of search requests per second.

Verdict:-
My choice of opensource ldap is 389 Directory Server as our server farm is mostly RedHat Linux based & our administrators are very much comfortable with it

We must not allow Govt to prosecute Namewee

I may not agree with Namewee way of expressing but I am respecting his view.

Like it or not, it is Namewee right to voiced out his opinion.  Those who scared of another May 13th is coward, and you allowing the unjust and it made you guilty

Prosecuting Namewee is denying your Constitution right and it will come back to haunt you and your children eventually.

I am not supporting Namewee but I am defend our basic citizen rights and which all Malaysians should.

Malaysia has no place for racial parties anymore. Do you think racist parties can bring racial harmony to the country? Dream on.

And one more things be a good citizen, colleagues, friends, neighbors;

for non-muslim, go learn more about other races cultures and religions. I bet most of you has no understand what is halal and why it is important.

for muslim, go learn the truth of Islam, and stop listen of the half truth and outright lies from some of the so called religion authorities.

Mahatir's Vision 2020 VS Idris Jala's Bankruptcy 2019

Not longer ago, we are all talking about Vision 2020, when Malaysia will become developed country.  But instead we will be going into bankruptcy by 2019, what a joke.

If you all remember, our GDP growth is always on target (according to the gov't), so where on earth that Malaysia will become bankrupt by 2019?

Maybe the billions wastage & corruption are the answer to all the questions we have.

Also, I will love to hear what TDM have to says about this, what going to really happened to his Vision 2020.
